The Bureau of Information Resource Management (IRM) stands at the forefront of integrating innovation and security within the U.S. Department of State, employing a dynamic team of Foreign Service, Civil Service, and locally-employed IT professionals. These specialists are pivotal in deploying and managing advanced IT solutions, both domestically and overseas, to over 270 U.S. embassies, consulates, and missions.

IRM professionals are digital diplomacy pioneers. They maintain and improve the Department’s IT infrastructure, analyze data to enhance technology solutions, and integrate the latest advancements for better productivity and cybersecurity. As a Foreign Service IT professional, the world will be your workplace. You will serve key roles in U.S. embassies and consulates overseas by applying technology solutions to the business of diplomacy. As a Civil Service IT professional, you will support IT programs and solutions that enable U.S. diplomacyworking in one of four offices within IRM:

  • Cyber Operations (CO) — oOversees the Department’s information security program by coordinating and monitoring information security activities domestically and overseas; balancing business operations with security requirements through risk management; and working with system owners to ensure system integrity, confidentiality, and availability.
  • Enterprise Services (ES) — IRM customers’ one-stop shop for enhanced and efficient service, both domestically and overseas, providing service strategy and data analytics; customer care and support; messaging and collaboration services; identity and credentialing services; and application design and delivery.
  • Enterprise Infrastructure (EI) — The backbone of the Department’s IT service globally, providing infrastructure strategy and finance; infrastructure management for operations, maintenance, and support; network technologies’ sustainment, support, and security; and regional post technical support.

Business Management and Planning (BMP) — Defines and communicates the Bureau’s vision and mission; oversees the day-to-day administrative operations, budgeting, and strategy; and supports workforce recruitment, retainment, and training initiatives. Current Vacancies
