Office Management Specialist

Foreign Service Office Management Specialists (OMS) with the U.S. Department of State serve in essential mission staff and support roles at embassies, consulates and domestic offices worldwide. They provide a broad spectrum of operational, administrative, technical, and executive staffing support services that are critical to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Department. These professionals are crucial for coordinating the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization. Their organizational, time management, problem solving, and decision-making skills ensure our domestic offices and missions abroad run smoothly  

Office Management Specialists have access to continued training and career development programs, health and medical coverage, and retirement benefits. The Department provides paid housing or an appropriate housing allowance, and paid K-12 education for dependent children during service overseas.  

Conditions of Service 

  • Be a U.S. citizen and available for worldwide service. 
  • Be able to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance. 
  • Be able to obtain an appropriate Foreign Service minimum medical qualification standards. 
  • Be able to obtain a favorable Suitability Review Panel determination. 
  • Be at least 20 years old to apply; at least 21 years old to be appointed. 
  • Be appointed prior to age 60 (preference eligible veterans accepted).
