The Pamela Harriman Foreign Service Fellowship
In 1999, the College of William and Mary in Virginia (William & Mary) established the Pamela Harriman Foreign Service Fellowship Program to inspire outstanding undergraduates from across the nation to pursue careers in public service. William & Mary intends to award the Pamela Harriman Foreign Service Fellowship’s annual awards to outstanding undergraduates from the U.S. Foreign Service Internship Program (USFSIP) upon completion of their two-summer internship with the Department of State. The anticipated purpose of the fellowship program is to fund and provide for additional professional development opportunities following the conclusion of the internships.
At least three awards will be presented each year with the exact award amounts depending on the projects proposed in the student applications. Typical awards will be $5,000. The award is intended to extend students’ knowledge and skills in public service and diplomacy by funding follow-on travel and/or study opportunities in the field upon completion of the summer internship, as well as through expanded networking, participation in conferences and mentoring activities with the fellowship’s alumni, partners, and supporters.
Eligible candidates will be contacted with instructions on applying for a Harriman Fellowship. At this time, the Harriman Board and the Department of State have determined that only U.S. Foreign Service Internship Program alumni will be considered for a Fellowship.
