Security Engineering Officer in the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) are responsible for the systems and equipment that protect U.S. Department of State personnel, facilities, and sensitive information from physical, technical, and cyber threats. SEOs use their background in engineering, computer science, or, cybersecurity, along with world-class training and professional development, to secure, protect, and defend critical international infrastructure and assets.
Critical thinking and teamwork are essential to design, implement, and maintain sophisticated technical security systems. Engineers design, implement, and manage sophisticated technical security systems working alongside Security technical specialists and other support staff. Security Engineering Officers also advise senior leadership on technical security matters, providing technical expertise and project management to keep our assets secure. Every day there are new challenges to solve that broaden an SEO's expertise in the face of rapidly evolving technologies, emerging threats, and changing global environments.
