National Science Policy
Network Science Diplomacy
Research Fellowship
The U.S. Department of State hosts 1-2 cohorts annually for the Science Diplomacy Research Fellowship of the National Science Policy Network (NSPN). This program complements other science and technology programs at the Department, all of which bring scientific and technical experts into the foreign policy process. This program specifically targets early career scientist, engineers, and techologists.

Research Fellows
Through in-depth research and engagement with foreign policy professionals, the fellows help increase understanding of complex, cutting-edge scientific and engineering fields, and provide recommendations on the wider international implications of important emerging scientific issues. In this capacity, they bring valuable knowledge from their technical expertise and professional networks to bear on the work of the Department and, through the Department, to the broader science and technology community.
The Research Fellows work specifically on a Science and Technology Policy question that has been deemed a priority by senior Department leadership and work for six months in collaboration with a host office at the U.S. Department of State. During this time, the fellows work remotely and independently and are not considered U.S. Government Employees.
