GuestJan 8, 2018 at 6:58 pmPost count: 4742Honestly, until you are placed on the register you won’t get much from State. They are constantly getting calls from 1000’s of applicants and only have enough mental bandwidth to deal with those who are already set up for classes and working through transition details. It isn’t an easy job.
That being said, I can try to answer some questions if I am able, unless the question is “when is the next class” in which case the answer will always be “we have no idea.”
Seriously, this question gets asked so much it is ridiculous. When a class is confirmed, someone will post here within minutes. Until those emails, nobody (including the registrars at State) has any idea. Asking and calling constantly just pisses them off and they will remember your name if you are the one that constantly calls asking questions they don’t have the answers to.
Is this frustrating? Absolutely. There is no way around it. If you made it to the register, congrats! The hardest part of the application process is over. What happens now you have zero control over so try to not stress about it. It’s a lesson in patience. The call will come when it comes.
If you have any other questions, post them here or make a new topic and I’ll help if I can.

The email does say that they can tell you if you are in the top/middle/lower third. I’m not to worried more just happy I made it. My letter did not indicate where I fell on the register I think the info was left out by accident. I guess my concerns are just like everyone else in that I worry about not making it off the register. Is this a practical concern? It would be disappointing to make it this far and go through all of this not to be hired…?
Thanks for your timeDSS_Vet

When I was on the register they gave the number out, which I’m glad they don’t do anymore because that number changes so much it makes your position irrelevant anyways. Anytime someone hits or leaves the register your position changes.
Not making it off the register is a valid concern. Bottom line, there are 2 ways this can go. 1. You get called for a class 2. You time out off the register and start the process again. There is good news and bad news regardless of where you fall on the register. The good news is that various ranking officials within State are fighting very hard for DSS to get more slots. The bad news is, it has not been as effective as everyone has hoped. The last DSS SA candidates started in Sep, Spring isn’t looking good, and Fall isn’t either at this point. Nothing is final of course, and classes can be called last minute, but bottom line is funding and class slots for follow-on are issues. If there is not funding for training 3-4 months after hire, there is no point in having a bunch of DS guys coming online.
Not an ideal situation for sure. Best case, you get called for a class in the Spring or Fall, worst case you time out because either there aren’t enough slots for DS, or you aren’t high enough on the register. Wish I could give better/clearer info, but thats about as good as it gets.
Keep the faith. We need good people and this sort of thing ebbs and flows with the government.

GuestFeb 7, 2018 at 2:35 pmPost count: 4742What are you trying to find out about your file? If you are on the register, you’re on the register. You just wait for a class to open up at this point. If you completely bombed the PFT that might change something, but other than that, you just wait for them to tell you that you’re invited to the next class.
Is there something else you are curious about? I can possibly help.

GuestMar 8, 2018 at 7:00 amPost count: 4742Unless you have under a month to before you time out on the list, your concerns are pointless at this juncture. DSS vet is correct that there are a lack of currently being run so why stress about getting a call back to the list if there are no BSAC classes, unless you like languishing on the list for no apparent reason? Be patient, find as much pleasure in you life as possible and the people at SA-20 will get in touch with you in due time. I know this is a cliche and is much easier said than done, but worrying about this stuff will do nothing but create unnecessary stress for something that you cannot control.
