Hi, Ryan,
Thanks for your question. Candidates who can document creditable veterans’ service by submitting form DD 214 or certification showing an expected honorable discharge date no later than 120 days after the certificate is submitted are eligible to receive additional points on the Hiring Register in their career track or skill group. Please see page 17 in the most recent Career Candidate Guide (March 2017 version 2) for information on points added for different preference levels. As “FSO” notes above, you will need to present certified document from your work unit rather than an uncertified memorandum from you.
To confirm that your certification has been received and your points added to raise your ranking on the Register, please follow up with your Registrar point of contact. Current e-mail, telephone, and fax contact information for your specialty is on page 6 of the Career Candidate Guide (March 2017, version 2),
We hope this information is helpful.
Best regards,

I am currently overseas on a short assignment and don’t have access to the Career Candidate guide, as the packet I was sent is back stateside, and I believe that it requires a password to access.
Would you mind clarifying on what “certified” entails? Would this just be a notarized document with said information? The document I sent the Registrar was a signed document from my Commander with all information required; however, I am not positive that it meets the requirements of being “certified.”
I have all of my Registrar’s contact information; however, I am sure my Registrar is being bombarded with phone calls and emails, so they have not been able to provide a response as of yet, but since timeliness is a factor with this issue I am seeking some clarification here on the forums.
Apologies, and thank you for your help on this matter.

Much like the military, personal follow-up is going to be important on your part.
Just be prepared for delayed responses, and unanswered voicemails when trying to contact your registrar. Calls put through between 0900-1000, Mon and Tue, were the most successful for me.
Good hunting.

Just wanted to post an update I thought would be helpful.
To alleviate this issue I had my Commander draft and sign an official MFR (on letterhead) stating my date of entry into active duty, my projected date of separation, combat zone deployments/dates (which are necessary for the award of points) , and that I am not under any official investigation and expect to be discharged under honorable conditions, along with a wet signature from him.
After submitting this to my registrar I have been officially awarded my Veteran’s Preference points. I imagine once my DD-214 is drafted I will have to submit that, but at least for class purposes, it seems to have passed the test.
Hope this helps!
