GuestJan 28, 2018 at 5:47 pmPost count: 4886I just got notified that I passed QEP, looks like OA’s will start in a couple of months for Courier. Has anyone heard how many positions are going to be filled this time around?
Also, I’ve been searching online to see what additional pay is available for couriers (Danger pay, additional housing/hardship allowance, etc.) because the base pay is so low. Would any current couriers be able to comment on additional pay/allowances that might help supplement the base salary? Is overtime ever paid?
thanks!

The way it works is that the employee draws the appropriate special pays for the day(s) s/he is in that country. I can’t speak to the intricacies of whether or not they’re prorated (IE, you’re in the country from midnight till 4AM when your flight departs, do you draw a full day or some portion thereof; does it matter if you don’t clear that country’s airspace until 1AM the morning after your flight takes off; etc), but that’s probably available online. My sense is that prorated would be logical. For what that’s probably not worth…
As for OT, generally the rule is that FS Specialists are entitled to O/T when they’re actually working beyond 8 hrs in a given day, but there are special provisions for folks on shift work and other special schedules. Considering the amount of travel time that couriers spend I would be very surprised if there’s not some sort of provision for couriers, ’cause it would seem reasonable to say that when a courier is traveling s/he is ‘working’ the whole time. I can’t see that working for the budget.
As a candidate myself, my operating presumption is that the bulk of additional pay is going to come from per diem, to which you’re entitled every day that you’re traveling. Not going to try to go into those intricacies even though I know them pretty well, you can do a Google search for the JTR (Joint Travel Regs) and look it up.
Good luck!
On to OA
GuestMar 24, 2018 at 1:13 pmPost count: 4886I’m scheduled for OA and written in Rossyln next month, very excited to have made it to the next step. Does anyone know how many applicants got invited for orals and how many positions are going to be filled? If anyone has been through the process and can give suggestions on prep please share – I’m pouring over all courier sections of FAM and reviewing what I can about the oral assessment process to prep for whatever interview questions and scenarios I can think of.

GuestSep 5, 2018 at 7:42 pmPost count: 4886Thanks for the class date, I’m still waiting on final suitability review (passed medical and security) so not on register yet. Any idea how many will be in that class and how many are still on register? Hoping to be eligible for the next class but I think my OA score might be on the lower side.

GuestOct 14, 2018 at 4:04 amPost count: 4886Hello, I am a vet that used to handle information for the USN and National Archive. I am aware of the delicate hiring process and have read many promising replies. Does anyone here know when the courier career will be posted open again? any best guesses? for instance i know the state troopers open their arms every 2-3 years.

DS openings are at least 12 months apart. They were 15 months apart between the 2015-2016 openings and 22 months apart between the 2016-2018 openings.
Also, why would state trooper hiring needs be a relevant comparison to the federal government? Completely different budgets, requirements, size, mission, etc……
