    Hi everyone,

I am currently a junior marketing major with a minor in psych. I did not discover my love for foreign policy and desire to work at the Dept of State until earlier this year when I had almost finished both requirements for my minor and major. I am particularly interested in the Foreign Affairs, Public Affairs, and Management Analysis areas within Civil Service. Those areas are policy focused. Will not having a degree in political science hinder my ability to get a job in those areas? Is it worth adding another minor in political science to better my chances?

I am a Computer Science major, graduated last June 2019 with a BS in Information Technology. I am accepted at NYU for the fall of 2020.

I don’t think it will be a problem. There are some jobs that require a poli sci/ history type of degree like some Foreign Affairs Officer jobs and a few others but for the most part any degree is fine. You could always do a graduate degree once you’re with State if you find a job that you really like but don’t have the right degree for. Also, Pathways internships are the best way to get into State so do those if possible.
