Registered Nurse
Foreign Service Limited Non-Career Appointment (LNA) Registered Nurses are responsible for Department of State medical and safety policies, provision of a range of medical services, and the actual performance of all essential medical functions and routine medical care. Registered Nurses work in U.S. embassies overseas alongside Foreign Service Officers, other U.S. agency personnel, and locally employed staff. As members of a diplomatic team, these professionals represent the United States to the people of other nations and help accomplish the mission of the Department of State
Foreign Service Limited Non-Career Appointment (LNA) Registered Nurses have access to continued medical training and career development programs, health and medical coverage, and federal retirement benefits. When serving overseas, they receive paid housing or an appropriate housing allowance, and paid K-12 education for dependent children. Not all benefits are available to LNA positions. The Student Loan Repayment and Language Incentive Pay (if language is a hiring prerequisite) programs are not included under the LNA program.
Conditions of Service:
- Be a U.S. citizen and available for worldwide service.
- Be able to obtain a Top-Secret Security Clearance.
- Be able to meet the appropriate Foreign Service Minimum Medical Qualifications.
- Be able to obtain a favorable Suitability Review Panel determination.
- Be at least 20 years old to apply; at least 21 years old to be appointed.
