Engagement Specialist
Regional Public Engagement Specialists are diplomats who advance U.S. foreign policy through the Department’s global network of American Spaces located in embassies, consulates, and partner institutions. American Spaces are frontline platforms for diplomacy, hosting programs that showcase American excellence in innovation, technology, and culture to promote engagement with global audiences on issues central to U.S. foreign policy.

Building diplomatic partnerships
Regional Public Engagement Specialists leverage their technical and professional expertise in managing cultural and information centers to bring diplomacy to life beyond the negotiating table, translating American interests into trusted relationships and lasting global impact.
Service in this role requires U.S. citizenship, worldwide availability, the ability to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance, and meeting Foreign Service medical qualification standards. Individuals must also receive a favorable Suitability Review Panel determination, as defined in Chapter 3 of the Foreign Affairs Manual. Additional requirements include a master’s degree from an accredited U.S. graduate program in Library and Information Science, Museum Studies, Education, Public Administration, Strategic Communications, or a closely related field, and a minimum of ten years of specialized experience within the last fifteen years.
