If you had read just about ANY of the past posts about the Summer Clerical Program, you would know. The exact date is not known, but it will more than likely be at the end of February.

Yes. It is expected that those selected/not selected for the 2012 Summer Clerical Program should learn of their status by late February. We do not as yet have a precise date.

Are there interviews involved in the process? I live on the West Coast, but would really like to participate in this program.
My application is submitted and I've received two emails indicating that I have been referred to the next step in the selection process. How many steps are there in the process?

This is what I was told, hope it helps!
Applicants are first screened by the on-line application system to determine if they qualify for the position to which they have applied, based on their responses to the questions given. The applications of candidates who meet the minimum qualifications are shared with the over 30 bureaus of the U.S. Department of State. Applications are reviewed by bureaus and offices with summer staffing needs. Not all bureaus and/or offices will select students for this program. Once bureaus have made their selections, they are returned to the Office of Student Programs. Student programs does a final review of qualifications before contacting applicants and notifying them of their selection. All applicants, those selected and those not selected, will be notified by the Student Programs Branch.

In addition to your information, the more I searched the questions, I did see that regardless of the steps, it would be the end of February before we could really expect to hear anything definite. Even that helps. No one has mentioned anything about an interview though.
I am very excited and hope to get a position!

Carin, its likely they will have phone interviews, if even. I think they understand that most of us are on a student budget and sprawled out all over the country (world) and can't come in for an in-person interview.
Also, its easier and less time consuming for the bureau/office to conduct phone interviews rather than in person.

I have participated in several summer programs offered by various Federal agencies. What always amazes me is the lengthy application process and lots of paperwork but no interviews (face or phone). See, they trust your responses because if you lie, there is a huge penalty....
