I wanted to double check. I have been seeing people get conditional offers with bureaus abroad. However I have only applied to domestic. I haven't seen any offers yet with bureaus here in the U.S. Is this normal that the bureaus abroad give unofficial notifications first? I know that the official notifications go out this month of May.

Both the Bureaus offering internships overseas and the Bureaus offering internships in the US may, in some cases, not make their final selections until very close to the time when official notifications go out.

I have applied and have yet to hear anything from the Department. Is there a deadline of sorts for sending letters or notifications and if so when should we expect to hear something either way?

Hi, Elizabeth,
Emailed notifications to those selected/not selected for a fall 2012 student internship are expected to be sent out prior to the end of May. We do not at this time have a firm date. So, you should be hearing something soon.

So the notifications are all sent through email and not by regular mail?

Yes, notifications to those selected/not selected are sent by EMAIL. Those selected will also receive a regular mailing.

Is the date of notification of 2012 FALL Internship applicants FIRM and indeed happening before the end of May as indicated?
