Seeking a FS Mentor

When is it a good time to seek a FS Mentor? I passed the OA in mid-March and clearances are in progress. My catch? I'm 58, soon to be 59, and I want to be ready if/when the call comes. Secondly--I'm a little isolated up here in central Montana--people with the experience I'd like to speak with are hard to find.
