What is the average timeline for security clearance processing? From investigation to adjudication and approval.
The process can take as few as, say, six weeks, to some months, depending on the background of the person, if issues, arise, etc. For example, someone who has lived/worked/studied overseas may find the process takes longer as investigations need to be conducted in the overseas locations.
The best case scenario would be 61 days but as the previous reply states depending on many other factors this whole process could take several months.
how long does the adjudication process usually take?
In 1st quarter FY2010 the end-to-end average for the fastest 90% of State Department security clearances was 54 days (43 days to investigate and 11 days to adjudicate). This does not including case initiation time. This is average included both Secret and Top Secret clearances. More current stats should be out next month.
