I would like to know if having a double nationality would negate me the right to work at the US Embassy. I have been an American for the past 15 years, and I want to remain so. However, I have been living in Guatemala for the past few months, and I would love to work at the US Embassy here if I had the chance. Having double nationality was not my choice, but I have it now. The law in Guatemala allows Americans born here in Guatemala to have it, but I do not intend to live here for a long time. I live with family, but my home State is Wisconsin, and probably Florida down the road. Do I have a chance to work at the American Embassy if there was an opening coming up today?
Our US embassies and US consulates administer their local hiring programs. Local laws must be met. For questions about whether or not you are eligible for hire at the Embassy, please contact the Embassy and ask to speak with the Human Resources Office.
