Hello.
I am interested in employment in foreign countries. I currently work for the Federal government and will be retiring in August 2012.
I am 63 years old. My experience is in the Human Resources field.
Is it possible to work for the State Department 1) at my age; and 2) in my field of work?
Thank you.

Hello, Shirley.
For our career Foreign Service Officer and Foreign Service Specialist opportunities, one must be hired before reaching age 60.
If you think you may be interested in employment opportunities at specific US embassies and US consulates, you could look into our "Local Employment" opportunities. You can link up to information within the "work" tab at our website.

Thanks for your posting.
I suggest that you review local employment opportunities at specific US embassies and US consulates to see if there are any positions of interest for which you qualify.

Individual US embassies and US consulates administer their own local hiring programs. If you are interested in working at a specific U.S. embassy or U.S. consulate, please check the embassy or consulate website to see if there are any temporary or locally employed (LE) staff vacancies you would qualify to fill. Individuals interested in becoming LE Staff must be legally eligible to work in the country of hire in order to apply. This usually means already having a work permit, residency permit, or other documentation required under local labor law.
